Aviva and Thomas Eggar Support Social Enterprise Initiative

Aviva, the world’s fifth-largest insurance group and the largest insurance services provider in the UK, and Thomas Eggar LLP, a leading law firm in the South of England, are supporting Enterprise Development Worldwide CIC, a social enterprise, in the marketing of its model of enterprise support in the UK and internationally.

Aviva and Thomas Eggar LLP are contributing to the work of Enterprise Development Worldwide CIC, a UK and international social enterprise, by sponsoring the organisation’s corporate imaging and new website: www.edworldwide.org

Enterprise Development Worldwide (EDW) works with communities and organisations around the world to create holistic enterprise support and business incubation programmes in disadvantaged and developing regions. EDW also has particular specialist expertise in the field of youth enterprise development.

Unusually, EDW’s team are practitioners in the field - delivering on the front line - as well as providing consultancy, research, training, capacity building support and advice to organisations and agencies around the world.

An Aviva spokesperson says: “Investing in education and development projects around the world is one of the visible ways we give back to our communities. We are delighted to support Enterprise Development Worldwide through investing in their communications’ infrastructure and new website, www.edworldwide.org.“

As well as working in the UK, EDW’s team have worked extensively across the emerging and transitional economies of Central and Eastern Europe and in Mediterranean countries. EDW is currently working with organisations in the UK, Europe, Africa, the ASEAN region and the Caribbean.

Tony Edwards, Managing Partner, Thomas Eggar LLP says: “We have an extensive knowledge of the charitable sector and of the way in which the public and private sectors work together, through the provision of services by the firm to organisations working in those areas. We have known of the valuable work of the EDW team through our long standing relationship with its parent body WYEC. We are delighted to support the wider roll out of this highly successful enterprise support model.”

Michael Manning-Prior, EDW’s Chief Executive, believes that the support of Aviva and Thomas Eggar LLP will help the organisation to realise its ambitious plans to build upon its work to make a real difference to disadvantaged, marginalised and socially excluded communities in the UK and around the world.

He says: “Our underpinning philosophy is to help communities to help themselves, through providing the training, education and tools they need on the front line, while working to impact on wider policy issues and the promotion of best practice. The development of our new website and corporate imaging will assist us greatly in reaching those communities most in need of our support.”

Notes for Editors

EDW is a social enterprise which has evolved from the long-established enterprise support charity, Wandsworth Youth Enterprise Centre (WYEC). EDW is part of the Wandsworth Youth Enterprise (WYE) Group. The EDW team has been delivering cutting-edge enterprise support in London for over 20 years and, for the past 12 years, has provided enterprise development advice and support to other organisations in the UK and internationally.

EDW takes a holistic, practical and sustainable approach to enterprise development, providing a unique and integrated range of services which support the development of an enterprise culture within disadvantaged and marginalised communities.

EDW’s work is therefore informed by direct ‘hands on’ operational experience and technical expertise. This is reinforced by experience of, and sensitivity to, wider policy and other issues. EDW’s support model has operated effectively in many environments which are different geographically, politically, economically and culturally.
