Trevor Phillips ACIB
Relationship Manager
Trevor Phillips, who is a SFEDI (Small Firms Enterprise Development Initiative) accredited Business Adviser, has extensive experience of working in both the enterprise development and business banking sectors and he has a special interest in the issues facing young people and the developing world.
Prior to joining the EDW team, Trevor worked for Greater London Enterprise/One London Limited. There he set up and managed Wandsworth Business Advice Service (WBAS), which developed a reputation for quality and cost effectiveness for delivering start-up and micro-business support. The service was specifically recognised in Wandsworth Council’s best value external review.
Trevor oversaw the launch of South Central Business Advice Service, providing similar services in the London Boroughs of Lambeth and Southwark, and in 2000 he was responsible for the relaunch, on a larger scale, of London Business Loans, a micro-credit scheme for the socially and financially excluded. Trevor was formerly a Director and Vice Chair of Capital Enterprise (London Association of Enterprise Agencies) and of the National Federation of Enterprise Agencies.
Prior to this, he worked for 25 years as a banker for Midland Bank/HSBC, 17 years of which he spent as Business Lending Manager for a group of five branches in the South East of England. Through this work, he gained a great deal of insight into the issues facing entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and experience of appraising business plans and employing lending discretion.
Empathising with the difficulties faced by entrepreneurs, especially young entrepreneurs, and wishing to bring his skills to bear on assisting young people to set up in business, Trevor worked for 12 years in a voluntary capacity as a South London Board Member and Lending Panel Member of the Prince’s Trust. The latter role required the interviewing of young people (under age 31) and appraisal of their business plans.
