Dr Jim Coleman MA (Econ), MSc (Econ), PhD (Econ)

Jim Coleman is a highly experienced economist, specialising in local and regional economic development and urban regeneration.

Prior to undertaking his current role, Jim was Director of Economic Development at EDAW plc. He also spent five years with DTZ Pieda Consulting, based initially in the company’s Manchester office and subsequently in Dublin. Before this, he was a lecturer in the Economics Department of Durham University. 

Jim has extensive consultancy expertise in:

  • labour market analysis;
  • training and skills needs analysis;
  • education (compulsory schooling, further, higher and vocational education);
  • urban and rural regeneration;
  • social inclusion and community development;
  • business and sector development;
  • the social economy.

Key areas of Jim’s work involve economic and regeneration strategy development and implementation, economic scenario building and local futures, programme and policy evaluation and local area economic assessment. Jim, together with Chris Paddock, another member of the team, undertook research for EDW’s youngbusiness.net project into the barriers facing young people in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, in relation to considering the self-employment option and setting up their own businesses.
