Andrew Bain – BSc, Dip Arch (UCL), RIBA

Andrew Bain, who is a corporate member of the Royal Institute of British Architects, received his Degree and Diploma in Architecture from the Bartlett School, University College, London in 1972.

Andrew became an Associate of Blampied and Partners Limited in 1991, and he has been a Director since 2000. Andrew is Principal Designer on a number of the company’s most important projects in the hotel, leisure and residential fields.

These projects include Intercontinental Hotels in Saudi Arabia, the Windsor Manor Sheraton in India and the Madeira Palacio Hotel. Most recently, Andrew has completed a 120 bedroom hotel for Ramada Encore at Bournemouth, and the 140 bedroom Holiday Inn close to Stonehenge, on which he has been working, is nearing completion.

Andrew has had a long career, working with some of the major architectural companies in the UK and Oman. For instance, he worked in the mid-1970s with Pascall and Watson on projects at Heathrow Airport for the British Airports Authority, including the redevelopment of Terminal Two at the detailed design and construction stages.

From 1980 to 1984 he worked and was resident in Oman and designed some major buildings including the Headquarters for the Oman National Insurance Company and the Oman Housing Bank, many other government centres and innumerable private houses.

Returning to Britain, he worked for Graham Moss Architects on start-up business units and residential developments in London. He also worked for WS Atkins on the Manchester Metrolink rail system, the first ‘supertram’ project in a British city. Completely new tramways were installed in the city centre, linking with existing suburban rail routes, giving direct city centre and cross city access.
